Luxury design firm Pininfarina of America has partnered with Roux Racings SRL to create two revolutionary, cutting-edge, racing helmet designs that push both aesthetic and technological boundaries. Launching in December 2019, the new helmet designs by Pininfarina are poised to bring even the most discerning race-car drivers a premium experience.
Set to debut at the Performance Racing Industry Tradeshow––taking place December 12-14, 2019 in Indianapolis––the new helmet designs by Pininfarinabring functionality and visual intrigue to meet the evolving needs of today’s race-car driver.
Intended for open cockpit cars—from Formula Four to Formula One—this helmet design is strategically crafted for aerodynamic efficiency and safety, which demand the highest standards. Complete with removable aerodynamic spoilers, this model simultaneously prioritizes technological innovation and aesthetics.
Built for closed cockpit racing, the GT helmet design offers an alternative solution optimized for the car’s extreme heat conditions. This helmet is highly functional in design, increasing air flow and lowering temperature via a built-in air port and a COOL-X integrated water-cooling system. In addition, a larger eyeport allows a broader field of view. Other notable features include an integrated water drink tube with quick disconnect, and complete radio gear with noise-cancelling microphone and speaker pods.
Fully customizable, both helmet designs include innovative features such as water-cooling, integrated communication, and a proprietary emergency release system that enables safety crews to remove the helmet quickly and easily, minimizing the risk of serious injury. Other notable features include the optimized positioning of HANS anchors, as well as a new trigger and visor rotating system that easily closes and opens in multiple positions.
In addition, both helmet designs will be built to satisfy the new mandatory standard FIA 8860 (2018) for an increase in energy absorption, and an extended area of protection for drivers and the Advanced Ballistic Protection (ABP), as well as Snell’s 2020 standards for homologation.
